A farmer, a co-op, a research lab, or an industrial player arrives with a candidate biomass and a single question: does this fibre have real industrial potential? The questions that follow — cellulose content? bulk density? real surface area available? — are always the same, but rarely asked in the same order, or measured against the same bar.

The method
Six families.
One score.
Each family captures a distinct dimension of industrial readiness — from the plant's intrinsic composition to its environmental trajectory. All 18 criteria are scored on a harmonized 0–6 scale and averaged into a single, comparable verdict.

Botanical
Before any industrial decision, the plant itself has already set most of the parameters. Cellulose content defines the theoretical ceiling — yet mineral matter, often overlooked, determines how much of that ceiling is actually reachable.

Logistics
A biomass that scores well in the field can lose most of its advantage before it reaches a processing facility. Bulk density alone can make or break the transport economics of an otherwise promising candidate.

Agricultural production
Industrial-scale pulp production is unforgiving on volume and regularity. The surface area cultivated within a realistic sourcing radius is the first hard constraint — and it often rules out candidates that look excellent on every other dimension.

Technical
Two fibres with identical botanical profiles can behave very differently in a pulping line. Process strength — the inherent robustness of the conversion route — is one of the least visible and most consequential factors in any industrial feasibility assessment.

Economic
Technical excellence does not survive a broken cost structure. Capex feasibility is often the deciding factor — not because the process is unproven, but because the minimum viable scale requires an investment the available volume simply cannot justify.

Environmental impact
The resource trajectory — whether the cultivated supply base is expanding, stable, or in structural decline — is a signal most assessments overlook, and one that determines long-term industrial viability as much as any technical parameter.
